Jesus Prayer Call and Response

June 10, 2024

For the prayer of confession, assurance, and thanksgiving, I would like to borrow from the broader Christian family, and have us pray together, the Jesus Prayer.

It goes like this: ”Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

Before we say it together, a brief reflection:

Confession: We explicitly confess our state as sinners in need of mercy

”Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

Assurance: Our bold request for mercy betrays our knowledge there is mercy for those who ask through our Lord Jesus Christ

”Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

Thanksgiving: Assumed, but not stated, heartfelt thanksgiving is our response as we receive God’s mercy

”Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

So, on the count of three, let’s confidently pray this prayer to our lavishly kind & generous God:

”Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
