Israel in the Desert

Our Father in heaven 

We confess that we are like Israel in the desert

• When hungry and in need, we do not trust you to provide our daily bread
• When you seem far away, we are quick to forget your faithfulness, and audaciously put you to the test
• When offered worldly power, we compromise, thinking we can manufacture a better life

But hear the good news! Where we failed in the desert, Jesus did not:

• When hungry, Jesus persevered in faith
• When you seemed far away, Jesus endured and did not put you to the test
• When offered worldly power, Jesus trusted the wisdom of the Father, even when it looked like foolishness and lead him to die on a cross

Thank you for your foolish love for us. Thank you that you went through death; and rose again to true life; and that you generously offer us your life—life to the full!

Amen
